The process is simple:

Step 1 — Get the Book and Audio Course
Core is designed to be used with two companion resources:
The physical edition of Complete Spanish Step-by-Step by Barbara Bregstein and its accompanying audio course.
Together, they provide the primary structured instruction for the Core learning path.
The physical book provides the chapter-by-chapter grammar instruction and exercises. The audio course closely mirrors that curriculum while adding narration, pronunciation modeling, learner cues, and active spoken recall.
Complete Spanish Step-by-Step is part of McGraw Hill’s bestselling Step-by-Step series and has long been one of the most visible self-study Spanish resources for learners who want a serious, structured path through Spanish grammar.
Core builds on that established learning sequence rather than a collection of random grammar topics.
You'll need both the physical book and the audio course to follow the complete Core learning path. Both are purchased separately.
Step 2 — Open Your Tracker
After purchase, you create your own copy of the Structured Recall — Core Tracker.
The tracker organizes your progression through all 30 chapters of Complete Spanish Step-by-Step.
It tells you:
- the book sections to study
- the corresponding audio course instruction
- optional vocabulary review
- Structured Recall — Core spoken production practice
- when to move forward
Once setup is complete, you don't need to keep rebuilding your study plan.

Step 3 — Study and Listen
The Core Tracker tells you exactly where to move between the audio course and the physical book.
You'll listen to the mapped audio instruction, respond to its spoken prompts, and then move into the corresponding sections and exercises in the book.
When you're finished, you'll continue to the next mapped section.
Listen. Respond. Study. Complete the exercises. Continue.

Step 4 — Review the Vocabulary If Needed
Core also gives you access to McGraw Hill's Language Lab vocabulary resources.
Vocabulary review can be useful, but it isn't mandatory.
You may already use flashcards, Anki, another vocabulary system, or simply find that the vocabulary work in the book is enough for you.
That's fine.
The vocabulary resource is there when you need additional practice.
Use it to support the learning path—not to create more work just for the sake of doing more work.
